MAGGIE TAYLOR
As I research more and more artists of interest, I am amazed how many attended Yale University in New Haven, CT. Maggie Taylor attended Yale as an undergraduate, not in the art school but philosophy dept, going on to Florida University for her Masters in Photography. Another aspect worth noting is the progression of work over the years artists make. Looking at her previous works, one can easily surmise, it is truly practice, practice and practice that allows an artist to hone and investigate the means in which their work will evolve. Her photography over the years has moved beyond the camera and has become solely digital, based primarily on manipulated flat bed scans. How does one classify this type of work?
On a side note, Taylor is married to established photographic visionary and expert darkroom manipulator, Jerry Ulsemann. Imagine the after dinner chats these two share!
I find her fascination with fish humorous and her creative journey whimsical. The use of old photographs of people and the dream-like settings make me wonder if her images have meaning or are if they are merely objects juxtaposed on the same canvas? Venturing onto her website (click on her name above) is an adventurous cyber travel in and of itself.
