In an artist statement about his 1/30th OF A SECOND underwater series, Wang Wei said, "The compressed faces in the water convey a feeling of suffocation. The sounds of flowing water and murmuring human voices from above intensify a sense of dislocation. Through a combination of image and sound, this piece creates an ambiguous sense of simultaneously being and not-being. At the time and place of the exhibition, the audience's response becomes part of the work. The work itself is highly transmutable in its ability to adapt to its changing environment, denying a sense of completeness.
